Report: Green to transfer out of Nebraska
Now it's even more imperative that Taylor Martinez remains healthy for a full season in 2011.
Because according to ESPN.com's Joe Schad, Nebraska backup quarterback Cody Green has requested a release from the university in order to transfer.
The rising junior was the team's top backup signal caller the last two seasons. He threw for 340 yards and three touchdowns in 2010 filling in for Martinez, who battled an injured ankle during his redshirt freshman campaign.
Sean Callahan of HuskerOnline.com noted on his Twitter page Saturday afternoon that the 6-4, 235-pounder didn't believe he fit Tim Beck's new offense, which will feature more running plays for the QB.
The Cornhuskers will be down to just two scholarship quarterbacks for the fall -- Martinez and redshirt freshman Brion Carnes. They also have two walk-ons in the program.
But the biggest question is whether Bubba Starling will be with the team when fall camp arrives. The dual-threat plans to enroll in classes on July 10, but will he ultimately pursue a career in pro baseball?
