Report: Minnesota hires Kill as head coach

After success at every coaching stop in his career, Jerry Kill will finally get his chance to run a big-time program.

According to a report from ESPN.com’s Joe Schad, Minnesota has hired Kill to be its next head coach.

The Northern Illinois coach, who defeated kidney cancer in 2005, led the Huskies to the MAC championship game and a berth in the Humanitarian Bowl this season.

In three seasons at NIU, Kill went 23-16. Before his arrival at the MAC school, he led Southern Illinois to five straight postseason appearances.

Kill will succeed Tim Brewster, who was fired after compiling a 15-30 mark in three-plus seasons.
