Report: Petrino to sign extension at Arkansas

Bobby Petrino is going to be at Arkansas for a long time.

Just as he was at Louisville. And the Atlanta Falcons. Right?

According to ESPN.com’s Joe Schad, the Razorbacks are close to announcing a seven-year contract extension for Petrino, who led Arkansas to a 10-2 mark this season and its first BCS bowl bid. The Razorbacks will play Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 4.

Petrino, who coached at Louisville from 2003-06 before moving onto a short stint with the NFL’s Falcons, is 23-14 in three seasons in Fayetteville.

Arkansas likely feels inclined to lock up Petrino as Florida has emerged as a potential suitor for his services. He was on the short list of candidates when Urban Meyer was hired by the Gators in 2005.
