SMU lands intriguing Class of 2014 pocket passer
Southern Methodist head coach June Jones and his staff landed a commitment from one of the better pocket passers in the country on Wednesday, as Class of 2014 quarterback Tyler Harris gave a verbal pledge to the Mustangs.
The 6-4, 221-pounder from Pierce County High School (Blackshear, GA) is one of the more undervalued pocket passers nationally, although he did receive scholarship offers from programs such as Alabama, Mississippi State amd South Florida.
Even though SMU already has two quarterbacks committed in 2014 (Darrell Colbert and Jordan Severt, both of whom don't hold any other FBS offers), Jones certainly likes to have depth at the position for his offensive attack.
Last season, Harris passed for 2,466 yards and 29 touchdowns as a junior. He has good size and a strong arm, although his footwork and mobility need improvement.
The signal-caller is SMU's 14th verbal commitment for 2014.
