South Carolina's Lattimore suffers gruesome injury

South Carolina star running back Marcus Lattimore was carted off of the field with an apparent knee or leg injury with 4:45 remaining in the first half of the team's game against Tennessee Saturday afternoon in Columbia.

Lattimore, who had a 28-yard rushing touchdown in the contest, tore the ACL in his left knee last year and was just recently starting to look like his former dominant self. The bruising and shifty back appeared to be holding his right knee down on the field before being taken to the locker room with a towel over head and hand covering his eyes.

Lattimore took a gruesome low hit at the end of a carry, taking a helmet from a Tennessee defender to the right knee as another Vols defender was coming at him high from behind. He remained on the ground in pain as trainers attended to him. The South Carolina team walked out onto the field to surround him, and Tennessee players followed.

Certainly, Lattimore is one of the most-respected players in college football, so it was a nice gesture from both teams to offer support while he lay on the field.

There's no word on the extent of the injury, but it looks very bad for the junior tailback.
