Starling on future at Nebraska: 'I'm coming up there July 10'
Bo Pelini and his offensive staff can rest easy if Bubba Starling's word means anything.
The Class of 2011 dual-threat quarterback from Gardner, Kan., told the Lincoln Journal Star on Wednesday that he will be on campus to begin classes on July 10. However, that's when the real intrigue begins -- and when Pelini and the Cornhuskers revert back to panic mode.
As Baseball America's top high school baseball prospect, Starling is projected to be a high selection in Major League Baseball's amateur draft on June 6. With that honor comes a contract that will be worth millions of dollars. And keep in mind that he is represented by Scott Boras.
So the real question is whether the quarterback and outfielder will be in Lincoln for fall camp.

The deadline for MLB teams to sign a player who is drafted this summer is Aug. 15. If Starling opts not to sign a baseball contract, he is expected to put his pro baseball career on hold and focus on football and baseball in Lincoln. He could sign a baseball contract and play football-only at Nebraska, although that’s unlikely. The other scenario is to play pro baseball and come back to play football in a few years if he decides the diamond isn’t for him.
As good of a baseball player as he is, the 6-5, 195-pounder remains an intriguing football talent. During his senior season, Starling rushed for 2,417 yards — not shocking considering his 4.4 time in the 40-yard dash.
He has a lot of room to grow into his frame, which will allow him to withstand the pounding he would take in the Big Ten. He has a good enough arm to be a true passing threat, and he has football moxie.
But will we ever see him on the field at Memorial Stadium?
For now, Starling said he is focused on having a good spring on the diamond and letting the process play out.
You can bet Nebraska fans are counting down the days until a decision is made so this drama can come to and end.
