Tennessee AD: SEC will not stay at 13 teams for long
New Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart says the SEC will expand again but states that officials at each school within the conference need to engage in a number of discussions on expansion before moving forward.
Hart likes the addition of Texas A&M, which is set to leave the Big 12 and become the SEC's 13th member next summer, but he believes the SEC's leaders must proceed methodically in their next steps because further league expansion is inevitable. The new Vols AD says those conversations will take place "in short order."
This past weekend the SEC announced that A&M would join the conference in July, but league commissioner Mike Slive said that the league's presidents and chancellors are not currently considering any other schools for admission for the 2012-13 academic year.
Of course, Missouri has been rumored to be a potential 14th member of the SEC if and when the league does expand. Meanwhile, the Big 12 is doing its best to stay together, and the Tigers would seemingly be a big part of that equation.
