Texas Tech hires Tuberville

Tommy Tuberville, who led Auburn to a 13-0 season in 2004, will be named the head coach at Texas Tech, according to a release from the school on Saturday.

Tuberville will be introduced to the media on Sunday.

The 55-year-old former Ole Miss and Auburn coach will inherit a program most known for its spread offense but in the news most recently because of an off the field issue involving former head coach Mike Leach. Coincidentally, it was Tuberville’s failure with implementing the spread offense at Auburn in his final season that led to his departure.

In ten years at Auburn, Tuberville compiled an 85-40 record after a 25-20 four-season tenure at Ole Miss.

His undefeated SEC championship season in 2004 garnered the Tigers a No. 2 national ranking as Tuberville was named AP Coach of the Year.

He also holds the honor of being the only football coach in Auburn history to defeat rival Alabama in six straight seasons.
