Utah to Pac-10 a done deal?
According to The Salt Lake Tribune, Utah’s Board of Trustees will hold a public meeting Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at Rice-Eccles Stadium to discuss a potential move to the Pac-10 from the Mountain West Conference. While the meeting agenda was not fully revealed, the topic listed is “discussion of athletic conference.”
The board is expected to approve the move, which would give the Pac-10 its 12th member after adding Colorado last week.
The Pac-10 tried to acquire Texas and four other Big 12 schools before the serious overture to Utah, with the intention of making the conference into a 16-team league. Texas would have been accompanied by Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Texas A&M. But those programs decided to stay in the Big 12, prompting the Pac-10 to be content with 12 members.
Utah would bring Salt Lake City's television market, the 31st largest in the nation, into the league along with the longest bowl winning streak in the nation.
