Will youth serve Florida's secondary?
We will find out soon enough how the dismissal of Janoris Jenkins affects the Florida secondary.
ICONWill Muschamp will be relying on an inexperienced secondary in his first season at Florida.
First-year Gators head coach Will Muschamp released his depth chart ahead of the team's season opener Saturday against Florida Atlantic, and the youthful secondary is one of the biggest concerns facing the squad.
Marcus Roberson is listed at one of the cornerback positions while De'Ante Saunders is penciled in as the starting free safety. If two true freshmen start in the secondary, it would be the first time in school history that has occured for a season opener. And with junior cornerback Jeremy Brown questionable with a knee injury, backups Moses Jenkins or Cody Riggs could be pressed into action.
While the inexperienced secondary may not get tested by Florida Atlantic, Muschamp better hope that his youngsters learn early and often before play begins in the SEC -- especially considering the month of October, when the Gators face an entire month's worth of contests against current Top 25 teams.
Of course, having a shutdown corner like Jenkins would have been a big boost for this defensive unit, but Muschamp put his stamp on the program this past offseason by dismissing the star cornerback. Jenkins is now playing for former Auburn head coach Terry Bowden at North Alabama.
