Anderson headed to the bench
Question: If you were the head coach of a professional football team and your starting quarterback produced the following stat line through four games, what would you do?
58/112 (51.8%), 644 yards, 3 TDs, 5 INTs, 5.8 YPA, 59.5 QB Rating.
If you answered, “bench his ass,” you and Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt have something in common.
That’s right. It appears the Derek Anderson experiment in Arizona may already be over. Reports surfaced on Wednesday that Anderson is headed to the bench and rookie Max Hall (BYU) will start in Week 5 vs. the New Orleans Saints.
Hall completed 9 of 16 passes for 85 yards with one interception in relief duty during last Sunday’s 41-10 blowout loss at San Diego.
As for the fantasy impact, this is yet another blow to the stock values of Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and running backs Beanie Wells and Tim Hightower. Hall has some potential, but he isn’t NFL-ready. There will be some growing pains and a lot of inconsistency here.
However, selling any of these players off now would be a bad move, as you don’t make money in the stock market buying high and selling low. Hold tight and hope for a solid performance, and then use that momentum to try and move whichever Cardinal it is that you currently have.
As for Hall, keep an eye on him if you need QB help and play in a deeper league. He won’t be an every week starter, but he’s got enough firepower around him to put up some numbers.
