Brandon Jacobs lands in San Francisco
If you can’t beat ‘em, sign ‘em.
One week after the San Francisco 49ers signed free agent wide receiver and former New York Giant Mario Manningham, the team reached a deal with another former Giant in running back Brandon Jacobs, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.com.
ICONJacobs will join former Giant Mario Manningham in San Francisco.
Financial particulars of the agreement weren’t immediately made available.
The addition of the 29-year-old Jacobs gives the Niners a loaded backfield that already features Pro Bowler Frank Gore as well as Kendall Hunter and Anthony Dixon. Jacobs averaged just 3.8 yards per carry in 2011, but scored seven touchdowns for the Super Bowl champs.
As for the Giants, the loss of Jacobs leaves the team with Ahmad Bradshaw, Danny Ware, Da’Rel Scott and Andre Brown left on the depth chart at the running back position. The team may look for another ball-carrier in the draft, considering the Giants ranked dead last in the NFL in rushing last season.
UPDATE: Schefter says it's a one-year deal.
