Cardinals make a splash to address the offensive line

Since 2011, no team in the National Football League has surrendered more sacks than the Arizona Cardinals (153). So when the new league year opened at 4:00pm eastern on Tuesday, head coach Bruce Arians and company didn’t waste any time addressing the team’s biggest weakness.

Per multiple reports, the Cardinals have come to terms on a five-year, $35 million deal with free agent left tackle Jared Veldheer. The 6-8, 321-pound former Raider appeared in just five games last season due to a triceps injury, but was considered by many to be the third-best offensive tackle on the market, behind Eugene Monroe and Branden Albert.

Prior to his injury in 2013, Veldheer appeared in 48 of a possible 48 regular season games for the Raiders, surrendering just 15.5 sacks.

The move should help the Cardinals counteract the elite pass rush units the team has to face six times a year thanks to playing in the same division as the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Rams.
