Central Florida hit with two years probation

Down comes the gavel.

The University of Central Florida got some bad news yesterday. They are headed for probation.

The NCAA put the Golden Knights on two years probation for “major” recruiting violations, according to the Associated Press.

The official report handed out by the NCAA details how UCF employees made 100 non-permissible text messages and 200 non-permissible phone calls from June 2007 until January 2009. The calls and text messages were made to 27 different recruits and their families.

UCF head coach George O’Leary released a statement in which he said that the “violations that took place are extremely disappointing.”

Central Florida went 8-5 in 2009. They lost to Rutgers 45-24 in the St. Petersburg Bowl to close out their season back in December.
