Chargers lose Vasquez to rival Broncos

Losing one of your top offensive linemen to free agency has to sting, but losing him to a division rival makes for the type of situation that could lead to more than a few sleepless nights.

That’s the predicament being dealt with in San Diego at the moment, as the Chargers just watched offensive guard Louis Vasquez sign with Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos to the tune of a four-year deal worth $23.5 million with $13 million guaranteed.

San Diego surrendered 49 sacks in 2012 (fourth-worst in NFL), but little of that blame can be laid at Vasquez’s doorstep, as the four-year veteran and 16-game-starter gave up just 2.5 sacks of his own last year.

The Chargers now have to find a way to replace yet another hole on the offensive line, while the Broncos can turn their attention to other roster concerns.
