Chiefs interested in Thomas Jones?
Running back Thomas Jones didn’t appear to garner a lot of interest on the first day of free agency.
As a 31-year-old with a hefty price tag, that doesn’t come as much of a surprise.
However, one of the interesting tidbits from Friday that seems to have flown below the radar is that the veteran rusher is drawing some interest from the Kansas City Chiefs, according to Jason La Canfora of NFL.com.
The Chiefs currently have running back Jamaal Charles at the top of their depth chart, who is coming off a breakout year in which he averaged 5.9 yards per carry on his way to 1,120 rushing yards and eight total touchdowns. In addition to Charles, the team just re-signed third-year back Kolby Smith at the end of February.
Jones would provide another physical presence in the Kansas City backfield as the ten-year veteran is coming off the most productive season of his career. Jones rushed for 1,402 yards (third in NFL) and 14 touchdowns while averaging a rock-solid 4.2 yards per carry.
However, were he to sign in Kansas City, the big chunks of yardage Jones grew accustomed to in New York may become a thing of the past. With the Jets, Jones was running behind one of the best offensive lines in football. With the Chiefs, the situation would be quite the opposite.
