Cory Redding is headed to Indy

Much like Rex Ryan recruited linebacker Bart Scott to come to New York when the former Baltimore defensive coordinator landed his first head-coaching gig with the Jets, Chuck Pagano has targeted one of his former players as well.

Pagano—who spent the 2011 season as the Ravens defensive coordinator—has persuaded former Baltimore defensive end Cory Redding to join him in Indianapolis. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it’s a three-year deal worth $10.5 million.

The 31-year-old out of Texas spent the first nine years of his career in Detroit before signing with the Ravens in 2010, one year after Redding made a one-year stop in Seattle. Last season he recorded 43 tackles and 4.5 sacks in 11 starts.

The Colts recently re-signed defensive end Robert Mathis, but are still preparing to lose Pro Bowler Dwight Freeney, which is most likely the reason why the team acted fast and got Redding under contract.
