Finnegan cashes in big with the Rams

In a day in which offensive players have dominated the headlines, free agent cornerback Cortland Finnegan put one on the board for the defensive side of the football.

Adam Schefter is reporting that Finnegan and the St. Louis Rams have reached an agreement on a five-year deal worth “about” $50 million.

The Rams ranked seventh in the NFL in pass defense last season, but that was due in large part to the fact that opposing teams were able to build up leads and run the football during the second half. In Finnegan, St. Louis lands a Pro Bowl corner who is familiar with head coach Jeff Fisher’s style of football, as the two worked together in Tennessee during Fisher’s previous coaching stint.

A six-year veteran out of Samford, Finnegan recorded 75 tackles and one interception in 16 starts last season.
