Gators dump DT Brown
The Florida coaching staff is sending a message: get in line or get out.
Gators defensive tackle Gary Brown has been booted from the football team, according to the Associated Press. Brown was arrested last weekend on misdemeanor battery chargers after he allegedly struck two women who were trying to kick people out of a party.
The 19-year-old redshirt freshman was the second-rated defensive tackle prospect in the class of 2009. He played his high school ball at West Gadsden in Greensboro, Florida.
"Gary Brown has had a history during his time here of not meeting a set of expectations we have for the student athletes in our football program and therefore he is no longer part of our program," team spokesman Steve McClain said.
According to the AP, one woman told investigators that Brown had slapped her in the face, while the other woman alleged he slapped her arms, causing scratches.
Neither victim required medical attention.
