Jets take over Manhattan

The New York Jets are certainly enjoying their march through the NFL playoffs.

Thousands of Gang Green faithful showed their support for the Jets during a Manhattan pep rally on Thursday as the team prepared to travel to Indianapolis to play the Colts in Sunday’s AFC Championship game.

For those in attendance looking to “get away” from Manhattan, that task may have proved to be trickier than usual on Thursday.

That’s because New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg unofficially declared that Manhattan would be known as “Revis Island” during the pep rally, after Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis, who has locked down some of the game’s best wide receivers this season.

“The Jets have the biggest heart in the NFL and we’re going in as underdogs,” Jets fan Rubin Palizzi told the Associated Press. “It’s not who you have on your team, it’s the size of the heart in the team.”

Bloomberg told the crowd he had made a bet with Indianapolis Mayor Gregory Ballard. If the Colts win, Bloomberg will be sending Ballard a pizza from a Staten Island pizzeria. If the Jets win, Bloomberg will receive shrimp cocktail from a local Indianapolis steakhouse.

Interesting that with all of this fanfare in New York, it sure sounds quiet in Indianapolis.

Maybe too quiet.
