Jones has no intentions of losing Miles Austin

If the 2010 NFL offseason wasn’t headed for an uncapped year, Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin would be an unrestricted free agent.

That would mean the Pro Bowl wide receiver—who is coming off a career year—would be free to sell his services to the highest bidder.

As it currently stands, Austin is a restricted free agent with limited options. We mentioned yesterday that the Cowboys’ most plausible course of action will be to place a restricted free agent tender on the wideout worth $3.168 million, forcing any team interested in acquiring Austin to deal a first and third round draft pick to Dallas as compensation.

The good news for Cowboys fans is that owner Jerry Jones has absolutely no intentions of losing his top receiver.

“We’re just not going to have Miles Austin any place but with the Dallas Cowboys,” Jones told ESPN radio. “We need him.”

Yes, Mr. Jones, you do need him. And it’s a good thing you only have to pay him $3.168 million next year.

Especially since you paid Roy Williams roughly $236,000 for every catch he made in 2009.
