Jones headed to Cincinnati

Nobody ever accused the Cincinnati Bengals of targeting high-character players.

Which makes the following sentence no surprise: Free agent wide receiver Matt Jones will join the Cincinnati Bengals, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN.com.

Jones, a four-year veteran out of Arkansas, was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2005. In four seasons with the Jags, Jones caught 166 passes for 2,153 yards with 15 touchdowns.

The wide receiver missed all of the 2009 season because no team was willing to sign him. He’s had trouble of the field, one instance in which took place last March when Jones was arrested for failing a random drug test when alcohol was found in his system.

The good news for the Bengals is that Jones will come at a relatively cheap price and provide some much needed depth to a depleted wide receiving unit.
