Market for Dansby starting to heat up?
INDIANAPOLIS—Two weeks ago, Karlos Dansby named four cities he would like to play in next season.
As the combine is set to open in Indianapolis this week, rumors are beginning to circulate that one of Dansby’s four choices may have a mutual interest in the soon-to-be free agent linebacker.
According to a tweet from Greg A. Bedard of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the word on the street in Indianapolis is that the Miami Dolphins are willing to pay some coin to land Dansby.
The news that the Fish are interested in one of the market’s top linebackers isn’t surprising. The Dolphins ranked 18th against the rush in 2009 (114.7 yds/gm) and currently have two aging linebackers--Akin Ayodele (30 yrs. old) and Reggie Torbor (29 yrs. old)--manning the inside of their linebacking unit.
In addition, the Dolphins run a 3-4 front, which Dansby is familiar with having played in Arizona’s 3-4 base for the last several years.
The six-year veteran would be a big score for a Miami front office that loves size and power on defense. Dansby ranks 13th in the NFL in tackles since 2008 (228) and brings playoff experience and leadership to the table as well.
Just don’t expect the Dolphins to be the only players in the market for Dansby’s services.
The New York Giants and New England Patriots also could use an upgrade at the linebacker position.
