Mathews battling high ankle sprain
And now, the waiting begins.
San Diego Chargers rookie running back Ryan Mathews did not practice on Wednesday due to a high ankle sprain he suffered in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Mathews told reporters that his ankle is sore and that he’s dealt with this kind of injury before—during his college days at Fresno State. I actually spoke with a doctor last year about high ankle sprains and he told me that they can sometimes take up to ten weeks to recover from.
That doesn’t mean that Mathews will be out for ten weeks—far from it. It just means that he may not be able to run at 100% for a little while.
Through two weeks, the rookie from Fresno State has picked up 101 rushing yards on 24 carries.
Our advice to Mathews owners is to play this one by ear and don’t make any final decisions until Sunday morning. We’ll continue to monitor his progress throughout the week and will feed you the updates.
San Diego takes on the Seahawks in Seattle this Sunday at 4:15pm eastern.
