Pouncey, Smith ruled out for Super Bowl

DALLAS—On Thursday, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said that rookie center Maurkice Pouncey was running out of time.

On Friday, the clock struck midnight on Pouncey’s season.

The All Pro center will not play in Sunday’s Super Bowl against the Green Bay Packers after missing practice for the third consecutive day due to an ankle injury suffered in the AFC Championship game. Backup center Doug Legursky will get the start for the Steelers.

In addition, defensive end Aaron Smith—who has not played in a game since October 24 against Miami—has also been ruled out for Sunday due to a triceps injury. The Steelers had hoped Smith might be ready to go by this weekend, but they realized Friday that the 34-year-old defensive end isn’t where they need him to be.

As for the Green Bay Packers, wideout Donald Driver is listed as probable with a quad injury, linebacker Frank Zombo is listed as probable with a knee injury and linebacker Erik Walden is listed as questionable with an ankle injury.
