Redskins to check out Fast Willie
He may not be able to turn the corner like he used to, but that isn’t stopping the Washington Redskins from kicking his tires.
According to KDKA2 in Pittsburgh, free agent running back Willie Parker will travel to the nation’s capital next week to meet with the Redskins.
The 29-year-old Parker hasn’t grabbed any headlines as of late, due mostly to the fact that other aging running backs such as Brian Westbrook, LaDainian Tomlinson and Thomas Jones on the market as well.
Parker rushed for just 389 yards with no rushing touchdowns in only three starts last season as he lost the starting job early in the year to second-year back Rashard Mendenhall. In addition, the former North Carolina Tar Heel hasn’t played a full 16-game season since 2006.
However, head coach Mike Shanahan’s new-look Redskins could be a decent fit for FWP. Current starter Clinton Portis turns 29-years-old in September and backups P.J. Hill and Anthony Alridge have a combined zero NFL starts between them.
