Report: Cutcliffe says no to Tennessee
Duke head coach David Cutcliffe has decided to take his name out of the running for the University of Tennessee coaching vacancy, according to ESPN.com.
Speculation on Thursday suggested that Cutcliffe, a former offensive coordinator for the Volunteers, would leave Duke to replace Lane Kiffin in Tennessee. But a source close to the situation told ESPN this morning that Cutcliffe was staying put.
In addition to Cutcliffe, University of Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp turned down the Tennessee head coaching job as well.
It looks like its back to the drawing board for Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton, who has said he wants to have a new head coach in place by this weekend.
Tennessee is rumored to be interested in Louisiana Tech’s Derek Dooley and Temple’s Al Golden.
