Report: Dansby signs with the Fish
Karlos Dansby said Friday afternoon that he planned on taking his time and checking out all of his options.
Just a few hours later, he's made his decision.
The six-year veteran out of Auburn has agreed to a monster five-year deal worth $43 million, according to a tweet from Adam Schefter of ESPN.com.
The deal contains a whopping $22 million in guaranteed money.
The Miami Dolphins were considered to be the front-runners in the race for Dansby since the free agent market opened early Friday morning. The team made it clear in recent weeks that they were looking for a 3-4 inside linebacker to fit their scheme and improve their defense--and Dansby was the best option on the board.
The 6’4”, 250-pound Dansby recorded 109 tackles (89 solo) with one interception and one forced fumble for Arizona in 2009. Over the last two seasons, he’s started all 32 regular season games for the Cardinals.
The New York Giants, as well as the Cardinals, were rumored to be in the hunt for the veteran linebacker’s services as well.
But in the end, the Dolphins got their man—at a very expensive price.
