Report: Raiders interested in Jackson

With the head coaching vacancy in Buffalo now filled, we can turn our attention to one of the more intriguing stories in the NFL.

Despite no formal announcement on the status of current head coach Tom Cable, the Oakland Raiders have asked for and received permission to interview Ravens quarterbacks coach Hue Jackson, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com.

At this point, it is unknown whether the Raiders are interested in Jackson as a potential head coach or as a quarterbacks coach. He’s done a solid job developing second-year signal-caller Joe Flacco in Baltimore and the Raiders could be interested in his services for the purpose of helping struggling former No. 1 draft pick JaMarcus Russell.

Oakland went 5-11 this past season and sent Russell to the bench after several poor outings and an abundance of turnovers. Cable is 9-19 as the team’s coach since taking over for current USC head coach Lane Kiffin.

With Cable’s status still up in the air, one thing is for certain: the next few days in Oakland will definitely be worth watching.
