Report: Westbrook close to retiring

Much like running back LaDainian Tomlinson’s time in San Diego may be coming to an end, Eagles running back Brian Westbrook may have taken his final snaps in Philadelphia.

According to Howard Eskin of 610 WIP in Philadelphia, Westbrook’s knee injury is bad enough to the point where the Pro Bowl running back may not even be able to pass a physical for another team and that the ailment could force him into retirement.

Westbrook only rushed for 274 yards in eight games this season with the Eagles as he missed time due to concussions he suffered in Week 7 at Washington and Week 10 at San Diego.

In addition to the knee, the veteran rusher has just one year remaining on a contract that is set to pay him $7.5 million. Couple the high price tag with the play of rookie running back LeSean McCoy this year (945 total yards, four touchdowns) and it looks as if the time for Philly fans to say goodbye to one of the most popular players in franchise history may be fast approaching.
