'Skins continue overhaul
New Washington head coach Mike Shanahan continued his makeover of the Redskins coaching staff on Wednesday as he fired offensive coordinator Sherman Smith, according to Jason Reid of the Washington Post.
Smith, a former NFL running back who played in the league for eight seasons, was on the Redskins coaching staff for the past two years and played an integral role in an offense that went 8-8 in 2008.
“I’m definitely sorry to see him go,” quarterback Jason Campbell told Reid.
With Smith now gone, Shanahan’s son, Kyle, will run the Washington offense next season.
The Redskins went 4-12 and finished last in the NFC East this season.
