Smith takes Fitzgerald's Pro Bowl spot

Sorry, Pro Bowl fans. If you were hoping to see Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald take on the best cornerbacks the AFC has to offer two Sundays from now, you’re in for a disappointment.

The Cardinals wideout will not take part in the 2010 Pro Bowl in Miami due to an injury. He caught 97 passes for 1,092 yards and 13 touchdowns in 16 starts for the Cardinals this season. Fitzgerald also hauled in 12 receptions for 159 yards with two scores in two postseason starts.

So, who will be the lucky receiver to take Fitzgerald’s place? None other than first-time Pro Bowl participant Steve Smith of the New York Giants.

"I'm really excited about playing in the Pro Bowl," Smith told the Associated Press. "It's truly an honor to be recognized by the fans, coaches and players as one of the best in the league. I realize how significant it is at the position I play, by being the first Giants wide receiver to be named to the Pro Bowl in such a long time. I plan to represent my teammates, my coaches and the entire Giants organization well, because I know I would not have made it without their support.”
