Source: Dolphins to check out Mike Williams

The Miami Dolphins will hold a private workout for former Syracuse wide receiver Mike Williams on Thursday, according to a league source.

Williams is a very intriguing prospect heading into April’s draft. He was the Big East’s leading receiver this past season before he quit the team in early November amid suspicion that he was on the verge of being suspended by head coach Doug Marrone.

Prior to leaving the Orange, Williams caught 49 passes for 746 yards and six touchdowns. The 22-year-old also set a Syracuse record in 2007 when he caught at least one touchdown pass in nine consecutive games.

Miami’s interest in Williams doesn’t come as much of a surprise. The team has long been rumored to be in the market for a wide receiver considering the fact that their top three wideouts—Davone Bess, Ted Ginn and Greg Camarillo—combined for just three touchdown receptions in 2009.

The Dolphins hold the 12th overall pick in April’s draft and some believe the team could target Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant if he is still available.
