The Redskins are going after Pierre Garcon

The Washington Redskins made their move to land a franchise quarterback last Friday.

Now, the team is looking to bring in some weapons to give that quarterback a fighting chance.

Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the ‘Skins are currently in talks with free agent wide receiver Pierre Garcon. Although it’s not the wideout acquisition many Washington fans had in mind, the Redskins’ recent salary cap hit will likely prevent the team from signing a more accomplished talent like Vincent Jackson.

The 25-year-old from Mount Union spent the first four seasons of his career with the Indianapolis Colts, where he caught 188 passes for 2,519 yards and 16 touchdowns.

The numbers indicate an ability to produce, but you have to wonder how good Garcon can be without future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning throwing him passes.

Maybe we’ll find out in Washington.

UPDATE: Garcon took to his facebook page to announce that he is signing with the Redskins. Alex Marvez of reports it's a 5-year deal worth $42.5 million with $21.5 million guranteed.
