Top cornerback in this year's draft class needs surgery

Alabama cornerback Dee Milliner, who is expected by many to hear his name called during the first ten picks of April’s draft, will undergo surgery for a torn labrum in his right shoulder following the 2013 NFL Combine, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com.

Dee MillinerAlabama CB Dee Milliner will undergo surgery following this year's Combine.

Milliner suffered the injury at some point during the 2012 season while playing for the National Champion Crimson Tide, but played through the pain and finished his final collegiate campaign with 54 tackles and two interceptions in 13 games. The 6-1, 199-pounder will participate in all aspects of this week’s Combine with the exception of the bench press.

“The doctors have informed us that he will be 100 percent and fully recovered in time for training camp in July,” said Milliner’s agent Tony Fleming. “We will be providing all NFL clubs information prior to surgery and updates close to the draft.”

Milliner appeared in 39 games during his three years at Alabama, recording 136 tackles and six interceptions. Not only does his talent warrant a spot at the top of this year’s draft class, but with so many teams expected to target the cornerback position come April, Milliner finds himself in a very favorable spot on the supply vs. demand chart.

While the 2012 First-Team All American will participate at this week’s Combine, Milliner is expected to miss Alabama’s Pro Day due to the surgery.
