Week 1 midweek injury report
Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Arizona Cardinals (knee, PROBABLE): Owners can expect to see Fitz in action this weekend. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt recently said the Pro Bowl wideout is on pace to return to action this Sunday, per the team’s official website.
Fred Jackson, RB, Buffalo Bills (hand, QUESTIONABLE): Jackson returned to practice on Monday after breaking his hand in August, but rookie C.J. Spiller has been named the starter for Buffalo’s Week 1 showdown with Miami. If Jackson plays, his role will likely be limited.
Brian Urlacher, LB, Chicago Bears (calf, PROBABLE): Lach returned to practice earlier this week and is expected to start against the Lions on Sunday.
Steve Slaton, RB, Houston Texans (toe, PROBABLE): Slaton is expected to return to practice today after suffering a toe injury on August 28. While he should be ready to go for Week 1 against the Colts, fantasy owners should leave Slaton on the bench. Arian Foster won the starting job and will handle the bulk of the workload.
Pierre Garcon, WR, Indianapolis Colts (unknown, PROBABLE): Garcon missed practice on Monday due to an undisclosed injury, per a report from the Indianapolis Star. We’ll continue to monitor the situation, but as of now, it looks like Garcon should be ready to play Sunday against the Texans.
Maurice Jones-Drew, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars (knee, PROBABLE): MJD was back at practice this week and is expected to start Sunday against the Broncos.
Brett Favre, QB, Minnesota Vikings (ankle, PROBABLE): The scene-stealer from the cinematic masterpiece “There’s something about Mary,” was back at practice on Monday and is expected to start Thursday night against the New Orleans Saints.
Jonathan Vilma, LB, New Orleans Saints (groin, PROBABLE): Vilma’s groin injury held him to limited reps in practice earlier this week, but the linebacker is expected to be in the starting lineup Thursday night against the Vikings.
Marques Colston, WR, New Orleans Saints (bruised kidney, QUESTIONABLE): Per a report from Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Colston said he’s doing well and expects to be ready to go Thursday against the Vikings.
Michael Bush, RB, Oakland Raiders (thumb, QUESTIONABLE): Bush was back at practice earlier this week with his injured thumb heavily covered. Howeve, owners should expect to keep him on the bench Sunday against the Titans. Darren McFadden will get the start.
Shawne Merriman, LB, San Diego Chargers (Achilles, PROBABLE): “Light’s Out” missed practice on Sunday and could find himself on the sidelines Monday night when the Chargers head to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs. We’ll continue to monitor the situation.
Donovan McNabb, QB, Washington Redskins (ankle, PROBABLE): McNabb and head coach Mike Shanahan have both said that the veteran quarterback will be in the starting lineup Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys. Fantasy owners are advised to look for another option. This is a tough matchup for Donny Mac.
