Rams claim Kellen Clemens
The St. Louis Rams have added a contingency plan in the event they find themselves without their starting and backup quarterbacks on Monday night.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, St. Louis claimed quarterback Kellen Clemens off waivers from the Houston Texans.
Signed by the Texans on November 23rd, Clemens was waived this week after the team signed veteran quarterbacks Jake Delhomme and Jeff Garcia.
Rams starting quarterback Sam Bradford is dealing with an ankle injury and missed last week's game, while backup A.J. Feeley stepped in and suffered a fractured thumb against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 13.
Clemens, a former second-round pick of the New York Jets out of Oregon, is expected to backup quarterback Tom Brandstater, who was promoted from the team's practice squad on Sunday.
Since entering the league in 2006, Clemens has amassed 1,686 passing yards with five touchdowns, 11 interceptions and a quarterback rating of 59.7. He takes the roster spot of offensive guard Jacob Bell, who was placed on injured reserve with a sprained right MCL.
