Source: Chris Harris ahead of schedule as he visits Dr. James Andrews

Denver Broncos standout cornerback Chris Harris met today with Dr. James Andrews and is considered ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

He was cleared to return to practice on a limited basis in non-contact drills.

Harris is expected to return, at the latest, by the second game or third game of the NFL regular season, according to a source close to the situation.

Harris remains on the Broncos' physically unable to perform list.

"It went well, it couldn't have gone any better," the source told National Football Post. "It was definitely a good checkup, very positive."

Harris recently estimated that he's 85 percent recovered from the injury.

A former undrafted free agent, Harris has established himself as one of the top young cornerbacks in the game prior to his injury. He's playing this season under a second-round, $2.187 million tender.

Follow me on Twitter: @RavensInsider

Aaron Wilson covers the Ravens for The Baltimore Sun
