49ers announce 22 cuts
Some teams like to play a cloak and dagger game when it comes to final cuts.
The later they wait to inform the players, agents and rest of the world of their intentions, the greater edge it will give them moving forward. Yeah, right.
The fact is teams have been evaluating these players since March and if the men involved need one more night of sleep to make a final determination – barring an unusual situation where injuries maybe have clouded a position – then they need to find a new line of work.
So kudos to the San Francisco 49ers, who went about their business in orderly fashion today, announcing 22 cuts to take the club down to the 53-man limit well in advance of Saturday’s 6 p.m. deadline.
Running back Michael Robinson, a productive special teams performer, has been let go. Veteran linebacker Matt Wilhelm is out of work along with cornerback Karl Paymah. Here are the rest of the cuts: K Shane Andrus, LB Mike Balogun, QB Jarrett Brown, FB Jehuu Caulcrick, TE Tony Curtis, LB Bruce Davis, G Brian de la Puente, TE Joe Jon Finley, WR Bobby Guillory, WR Jason Hill, WR Kevin Jurovich, T Matt Kopa, LB Keaton Kristick, S Chris Maragos, FB Brit Miller, DT Khalif Mitchell, DT Will Tukuafu, DT Derek Walker, C Cody Wallace.
