49ers cut John Skelton, claim Bethel-Thompson

The San Francisco 49ers released quarterback John Skelton and claimed quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson off waivers from the Minnesota Vikings.

Bethel-Thompson was cut by the Vikings when Josh Freeman was signed.

Bethel-Thompson was with the 49ers two years ago in training camp.

He has no regular-season experience.

Bethel-Thompson is a San Francisco native who was on the 49ers' practice squad in 2011.
