49ers dump Brandon Jones

So much for that foray into free agency.

Give the San Francisco 49ers credit, though. They identified a mistake and made a move to correct it. The club announced today that it has released veteran wide receiver Brandon Jones, who simply didn’t work out after signing a modest $16.5 million, five-year contract in free agency a year ago, a deal that included a $5.4 million signing bonus.

Jones suffered a broken shoulder in training camp last summer and was virtually invisible when he returned healthy, catching just one pass. Once a productive complementary receiver for the Tennessee Titans, he’s now looking for work.

The 49ers also announced that guard Chris Patrick was waived/injured.
