49ers find their kicker
The San Francisco 49ers have found their replacement for David Akers.
While the club has yet to officially announce it, Phil Dawson announced via his Twitter handle that he is signing with the 49ers, according to Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News.
“I am humbled & thrilled to have the opportunity to continue my career with my new team, the SF 49ers!” Dawson wrote.
Dawson spent the previous 14 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. He’s a veteran kicker for the Niners, who stuck with Akers despite his struggled last season. Dawson was 29 for 31 on field goals last season and reached the Pro Bowl. He worked with 49ers special teams coach Brad Seely in Cleveland previously.
