49ers fire Jim Tomsula

The San Francisco 49ers fired coach Jim Tomsula after one season. Tomsula was in over his head as a head coach. He was a former defensive line coach who undermined former coach Jim Harbaugh. “Jimmy has been a valuable member of the 49ers organization for the last nine years,” owner Jed York said in a statement after ducking the media. “We all know he is a man of high character, and his contributions on the field and in our community have always been greatly appreciated. This entire organization is proud and grateful to have worked so closely alongside Jimmy. We all wish him and his family great success in the future.” The 49ers were reportedly contacted by former Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly's camp to express interest in the opening. The 49ers also are expected to be interested in New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton. Follow me on Twittter: @AaronWilson_NFL Aaron Wilson covers the Texans for The Houston Chronicle.
