49ers hire George Whitifield as coaching intern

The San Franciso 49ers hired quarterback guru George Whitfield as a coaching intern.

They also hired former Atlanta Falcons and Stanford offensive tackle Bob Whitfield as a coaching intern.

There's no apparent relation between them. Both are with the 49ers under the Bill Walsh minority coaching fellowship.

Whitfield has coached Johnny Manziel, Andrew Luck and Cam Newtown.

“I thought it’d be beneficial for us to have him here,” Harbaugh said of George Whitfield. "There’s no carte blanche, but we agree on a lot of things. Haven’t found anything we disagree on. So, it’s not like we’ve turned our quarterbacks over to George, but he’s going to augment and assist and I think it’ll be beneficial for us, beneficial for him and should be a win-win. Always looking for that.”
