49ers holding off on Austin Collie right now
The San Francisco 49ers could still be a player for Austin Collie but first they want to see how their wide receivers look when training camp opens.
Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports the team remains “interested” in the former Indianapolis Colt but that nothing is likely to happen until after camp kicks off.
Collie worked out for the 49ers last month. He missed most of last season with a knee injury and has a well-documented history of concussions. The 49ers will be without their top wide receiver Michael Crabtree for the majority of the season as he suffered a torn Achilles tendon earlier in the offseason. Still, the club wants to see its younger players and determine if any of them are poised to flourish.
Depth could be an issue because there is not a clear starter right now opposite Anquan Boldin.
