49ers linebacker Aldon Smith restructures contract

San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker Aldon Smith restructured his contract. He's still due $9.754 million this year. It's no longer guaranteed. It's now divided into a series of nonguaranteed bonuses, including roster bonuses during the season, where he can still make the same amount as long as remains out of trouble. Smith has had a series of off-field issues in the past. "A lot of people haven't had the pleasure of meeting Aldon," general manager Trent Baalke said during the NFL scouting combine. "A great young man. He's had some off-the-field adversity, some personal adversity that he's trying to deal with and is dealing with. But, if you've ever had an opportunity to meet him, I think you'd feel how most of us feel, a tremendous young man."
