49ers lock up Anthony Davis for long haul
The San Francisco 49ers have been relatively quiet in free agency and often times that is the best approach.
They made some noise this morning, though, when they re-invested in one of their own. The Niners signed right tackle Anthony Davis to a five-year extension that will keep him in place through 2019. Pro Football Talk first reported the news.
Davis' deal is worth $37.295 million and includes $17 million in guarantees and the club is now ensured it will have a pillar on the line for seasons to come. There is more work ahead for the team. Outside linebacker Aldon Smith and quarterback Colin Kaepernick will be players the 49ers want to sign in the near future, maybe next offseason. Guard Mike Iupati and possibly wide receiver Michael Crabtree would figure into long-term plans as well.
Davis was the 11th pick in the 2010 draft and his career has soared under Jim Harbaugh’s coaching staff.
