49ers make coaching hires; promote Gamble in front office
Jim Harbaugh made two more additions to his coaching staff in San Francisco as the 49ers appointed Reggie Davis tight ends coach and named Peter Hansen a defensive quality control coach.
Davis comes to the Niners after coaching running backs for the previous three seasons at Oregon. He coached tight ends for Harbaugh previously at the University of San Diego and he also worked at UNLV from 2005 to 2007. The 34-year-old also played with Harbaugh in the NFL with the San Diego Chargers.
Davis replaces Pete Hoener, who had one year remaining on his contract with the 49ers but left to become the tight ends coach for the Carolina Panthers. Hoener spent the last six seasons in San Francisco and was instrumental in developing Vernon Davis.
Hansen comes to the Niners from Stanford where he was a defensive assistant for the previous two years.
The organization also announced that Tom Gamble has been promoted from director of pro personnel to director of player personnel where he will help oversee pro and college scouting and essentially be the right-hand man for first-year general manager Trent Baalke.
