49ers not wasting time in general manager selection process
The San Francisco 49ers are not wasting any time with the organization’s search for a general manager as team president Jed York interviewed former St. Louis Rams personnel man Tony Softli.
According to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area, York said he plans to hold in-person or phone interviews through Sunday, the end of the regular season. Of course, if York doesn’t expand his search beyond that date, he won’t be able to select from potential candidates with other teams. Per the report, York said he will decide at that time if he needs to expand the process.
Trent Baalke, the 49ers’ top personnel man since GM Scot McCloughan abruptly departed in March, is considered a strong candidate for the job. Former Denver Broncos general manager Ted Sundquist is also a potential candidate.
The 49ers will rely on their new GM to hire a replacement for ousted coach Mike Singletary.
