49ers say they're not interested in Greg Hardy

The San Francisco 49ers aren't interested in Carolina Panthers free agent defensive end Greg Hardy on the heels of his domestic violence arrest. “There’s been no contact with Greg Hardy or any representative of his,” general manager Trent Baalke said. "There is no interest that we've shown, nor will we in bringing Greg Hardy into this program." The 49ers have had several players with off-field problems, including Aldon Smith, cutting Ray McDonald, fullback Bruce Miller getting arrested for spousal abuse and Jerome Simpson, whose background includes possession of marijuana driving under the influence. “We understand the gravity of where we’re at,” Baalke said regarding Simpson. "That’s been well documented over the last six to 12 months.  Like any player that we bring in, we do our due diligence. We really look into the situation. I think you remember a couple of years back, we brought a player in, Perrish Cox, and it worked out well. "Every situation is different, and we felt good about the information we gathered on Jerome. We not only spoke with a lot of people that worked with him, we spoke with people that played with him. And we also brought him in here and met with him for a full day before we made that decision — very similar to what we did with Perrish.” Follow me on Twitter: @RavensInsider Aaron Wilson covers the Ravens for The Baltimore Sun
